  4. I just finished watching your movie.

As part of one of the most influential postmodern video game series, your movie is really great. I loved Philanthropy, and I sincerely hope I’ll be able to follow the story to the end. Please, don’t let Hive die!

  5. Hey guys, awesome job altogether! I’ll be honest, I watched this movie elsewhere because I did not know of it’s existence, but I had to find you afterwards to say what a great job on part 1, I like the idealology behind your project, and I wouldn’t change the quality of the movie in the slightest. I thought it had charm, great production, and above else represented the MGS series VERY well.

I know this is supposed to be non-profit non-budget, but I hope you guys get a little to live off of, you deserve it, and getting any kind of bonus like money (other than respect and personal fulfillment) for doing what you love to do is the best feeling.

I haven’t looked through all your information yet, but I’d love to get involved if you needed some free extras or actors, or even help in general. If you don’t already (I’m going to check) you should incluide some sort of sign-up or directory for other fans like me to put down our names/locations/contact info on your site, so you can have access to probably thousands of people willing to just be involved.

Thanks for all your work. Never stop these fundamentals, no matter what. This is what the entertainment industry should look like!

PS – LOVED the post-credits takes, very funny, and shows a good side :)

  8. This was quite an amazing movie, I’m a huge MG/MGS fan and the movie was beautifully done, I look forward to any information that is given in regards to future of this 3 part masterpiece. if I were able to fill every seat to a hollywood premiere of this film, I would give a standing ovation.

I have paid to see multimillion dollar hollywood films, and they have not shown the same level of quality that this film has put out for one, one hundredth of the amount. I pray, that your studio goes far in the world, and you are making films for the entire world to appreciate for many years to come.

You have gained a fan, and a follower this day.

I now you must be tired of reading it and replying back, but it’s what you get for making such a great work. ;)

I hope with the success you’ve found in the completion of this film and the astounding level entertainment you’ve brought to the masses of metal gear fans, that you continue your pursuit and cherish such an amazing creation as a triumph in your life.

  30. I would say that MGS Philanthropy is on the same level as many professionally made films, and beats many of them. We don’t need an official MGS film as long as we have this. It was amazing and I’m looking forward to part 2. Well done :)

  31. Kudos! I love the movie, even though it is short, but definitely a breakthrough since you guys use live actors and this makes it more ‘realistic’.

I do know the tedious work involved in film-making, since I am the director, actor and editor and sound engineer all in one.

Just would like to share with you guys my work at the website stated above.

And I pray the best for you guys and may GOD reward you for all your hard work.

    Guestbook Entry by Shariff 'Snake' Fudin — May 29, 2011 @ 15:37:32

  32. I was going to post an indepth post about how I percieved the movie, but I think it wouldn’t do you the justice you deserve. I found myself having to compare Metal Gear Solid: Philantrophy against mainstream movies with budgets effectively dwarfing that behind the Philantrophy project, and I realize… that’d be unfair on you, a group of dedicated and rather skillful fans and individuals investing time, passion and dedication into a fanmade movie.

What I would like to point out, however, is the fact that I was immediately comparing it to mainstream movies with gargantuan budgets and PR machines behind them. Your movie is, in fact, that good. Those occasions when you realize it’s a fanmade movie and things look a bit out of place aren’t as common as you’d expect, the acting is great, the scenes and visuals are amazing, your effects are also astounishing for your budget and despite this being a movie with dubbed in lines, it works. With solid acting and solid voice-work, you’ve done something you all should be proud of.

Even if the project of Philantrophy won’t be complete, I think the first part of the trilogy will stand alone as a monument to how much you love Metal Gear Solid and how much we loved this movie. I hope and can’t wait for the next two parts should you get the time to produce them, and if you do, I hope you bring the magic to those two parts as well.

I’ll admit, this might not be the Metal Gear Solid movie adaption we’ll end up with if there ever is a mainstream movie out of Hollywood, but this is the kind of movie we, the fans, deserve.

Thank you for making me enjoy an hour of film-making as it should be done. It was the best entertainment I had so far this year, and for a movie-lover like me, that counts for something. I’ve seen a lot of movies so far this year and most of them have suffered from a lack of love and dedication. Your movie, on the other hand, didn’t.

    Thank you.

  33. Congratulations!

I just saw the movie and enjoyed it very much. The animations were awesome.
But more than anything I was amazed by the Snake’s voice. I actually thought it would be the original!

  35. I have yet to watch the film, but I have heard the reviews and I hope to agree with the positive ones. I have long awaited a film adaptation, because the game itself could be considered a work of art by itself, and now that I am finally taking the time to watch it, I hope it impresses.

    Guestbook Entry by Steve Douglas — April 12, 2011 @ 01:13:10

  36. ….That was epic. I found out about MGS: Philanthropy through a link on Wikipedia. I thought it was another MGS game I never heard of, but I was pleasantly surprised!

I have to say I believe this movie can rival (and beat) a Hollywood box office attempt at MGS. The character development was great. The props looked all very well crafted, the cinematography, the CGI, the plot, it was all very much like MGS!

I have to say there were some parts that were TOO funny and absolutely captured Snake. Like when he first met the private playing on the DS, and when he was talking about resembling a game character and looked at her butt. Those scenes echoed MGS too me. Well done, truly.

I can only imagine how hard it is to pull of dialogue that resembles the scripts in MGS, but you guys did awesome! And Snakes voice….I believe that the whole movie rested on the quality of his voice (more than prop or acting or appearance quality) and you guys hit the mark.

The music was also appreciated. The compositions fit the scenes perfectly, and as actors just debuting, it was great!

I hope you guys release the 2nd part!!!

I absolutely will be telling everyone to watch this.

    All the best

  58. Hey Guys,

Congratulations on the success. Excellent work.

As an IT guy , the quality of the cinematics are unbelievable for the level of money spent and equipment used. Alot of effort has been put in and you have a fanbase thats so much bigger than you think, Even though its a “long term” project for parts 2 and 3, alot can change in that time but please don’t give up on parts 2 and 3.

Consider a donate page to the site to assist with funding. You might be suprised.

    Ciao!

  61. You’re MGS movie is amazing! I, too, made one, but it obviously didn’t turn out as great as yours as I don’t have a professional team or equipment. There are some similarities in our works, though, as both of our directors were forced to play Snake, and we both have an original score. But kudos, I hope that MGS: Philanthropy gets to Kojima and you get a great reply!

  62. I’ve always thought that a Metal Gear Solid movie would be the most amazingly awesome thing in the world. But I had many fears of a huge production studio making the movie, because Hollywood and it’s thirst for cash would focus more on the stealth and actiony-war than on the overall message behind the series; a message about the atrocities of war and the feebleness of nuclear deterrence.

Hive Division, however, has created a deliciously delectable, true to the tune Metal Gear movie that nobody else could’ve created. The beginning of an epic tale has been laid before us with The Overnight Nation, already leaving anyone who has watched it with a plethora of questions. Hive Division has shown their strength at building intrigue in Hideo style, while capturing the essence of what Metal Gear Solid has been all about.

You have thousands upon thousands of people who yearn to see the rest of this Snakey story you have presented, every one of us in support of your dream. I’m willing to bet every single person who has seen this movie would be willing to contribute in any way possible to continue this legacy.

Soldier on, Hive Division. Soldier on.

  69. Hi,

I musst admit, I really liked it. I thought it dragged a little in the beginning, but It got really good and it had a constant Metal Gear feeling.

What really suprises me, that you got the project done with under 10.000 EUR… Really good job, I think your work should be rewarded. Maybe with your own movie franchise, with a whole new idea, where you could bring in all the creativity.

  70. I’ve been a fan of the Metal Gear series since “Soild”, and it’s remained one of my favorite games series to date. I’ve always wanted to see a live-action production of the characters and story portrayed in the games. This film absolutely blew me away. It captures not only the characters, but subtle nuances in storytelling and delivery that will satisfy even the most biased, hardened Metal Gear fans, like myself. Bravo.

  75. Guys, this was a great movie. I know the MGS games better than I know my family. And this film impressed me alot. I really really hope that you finish the other parts. nd I saw the homages to my favorite MGS character/persona/alter ego Psycho Mantis. the guy who created the electronic interference in the woods and was standing facing the battle at the end of the part (i assume he was the one doing the mind control). So please make me and all other MGS fanatics proud by finishing the other part(s) to Philanthropy.

Epic story, but that twist at the end leaves me drooling for more: I cannot wait for part two, please make it :)

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS FILM, IT WAS THE BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN EVER!
I also think you got the pace just right! Well done!

  89. Kojima is Metal Gear, Konami is metal gear. Hive Division is not metal gear. Nobody can emulate david hayters voice. David Hayter is solid snake. I am a metal gear buff, and I completely disagree with everyone here. It was well done mock-up of a movie, but it makes me sick when poeple try to emulate solid snake, and the metal gear franchise. Im not going to leave my name because I dont have to leave my name. In the words of David Hayter himself “No, that is not Solid Snake”….”Stop impersonating him,”…!!

That was one of the most enjoyable movie I’ve seen in a long time. I’m happy that I didn’t had to wait a long time to see it… but now I will just can’t wait to see the next part!!

I’ll be honest I was scared of it turning out bad, but no, this is an extremely well made movie, much better than a lot of big production movies that hollywood makes. You guys are very talented, and I am eagerly waited for part 2. Good job!!

  94. all i can say is wow! that was spectacular. i would say it would be worth paying to own. I am so thoroughly impressed. props were awesome. I cant believe what was accomplished with the amount invested. I’m sure the donated time was the highest cost. I would love to make a donation. In fact my wife has now taken an interest in the series. I cant express the feelings i got while watching this movie. It gave me chills just knowing how much you cared about people like me! The most impressive was kojimas comment. Now that was impressive. I hope he contacts you all to help and give you feedback. Once again thanks!

    Guestbook Entry by Paul Rafferty — June 23, 2010 @ 01:51:46

  95. I just have to say out of the attempts at making fake movies based on the metal gear universe, this was the best, but it was still pretty ridiculous. First of all the guy portrayed as snake tried to hard to sound exactly like the character and failed miserably and his accent started to show, as well as trying to immitate the actions in a videogame, which are not the way poeple act and it was too goofy, I couldnt help but laugh. Snake is not an italian with bulging eyeballs and huge lips, I give him an F+ for trying. Dear god I hope kojima doesnt consider hiring him if he ever made an MG Movie. The rest of the characters were pretty bad too, the guy on the airplane was desperately attempting to imitate otacon, even though he was a seperate character, it was like you guys wanted kojima to see how much you imitated charaters in the mg universe and seeing your great talent he would hire you. But thats not the way it works. Snakes love interest was hideous, the sniper always had a grin on his face even when he was getting shot at, nobody laughs at danger for real, thats just in the videogames. Today poeple want movies that seem real and not rambo, and the story didnt really make me want to continue on, and I didnt care for the characters. I cared more for the characters in Killer Klowns from outer space than this movie. I do have to note that the CGI was awesome though, good job on that. Please try other videogames, dont destroy the essence of this great saga by turning it into a cheesy movie. Instead of making a sequel try practicing on other video game universes before you make another attempt at this, please dont make a sequel. Cause overall metal gear philanthropy is a god damn disgrace. If anybody is going to make a MGear Movie it is going to be Mr. Kojima.

  108. WOW!! For the first time I see a movie, albeit fan-made, that keeps the whole video game feel to it. All too many times Hollywood tries to trade realism for what we love about the games in the first place. Hive Division, with a limited budget and no star power, has done what Hollywood has consistently failed to do, create a game media-to-movie media project that doesn’t tarnish the character and action content.
Congratulations and I look forward to a continuation and future productions. Hopefully this piece grants you favor and allows you build on what you have done thus far.
Best of luck to you all.

  109. Dear Hives Division,

    PLEASE continue ASAP.

NO lie, I am REALY interested in seeing the rest of this movie. You made a MOVIE, not just a fanfilm! There is see professionalism all around this film; EVERYONE was serious and did their parts incredibly well.

Plus, it was just so damn cool to see military operations carried out, down to weapons control, to Pierre puling rear security, to buddy rushes, etc etc. I was impressed!

Further observation, you and your entourage conveyed the MGS world fluently; from the details of the Codec, to how scenes carried out, and to how characters interact and develop.

The story has my attention. I am VERY interested in having the questions (i.e. who are the badguys, what the heck is up with her eyes, etc), answered, for (a) you posed VERY cool questions, and (b) you left them partially unanswered while posing MORE questions.

    Graphics? I loved them.

PLZ continue; I really like this series!

  115. I just wanted to take the time to thank all the people who made this movie possible! I’ve been a die-hard metal gear fan since MGS on the PSX back in the 90s. Since then I’ve followed the story line, and loved it ever since. I’m even friends with David Hayter on facebook (I almost cried when HE invited ME as a fan just for a comment I made on his wall about the impact his acting career as Solid Snake has had on my life). I’ve always been inspired by the story and “internal” mission of snake’s adventures, and I hope that the second installment of this movie is released very soon so my whole family and I can watch it together. Keep up the good work, and you definately have a fan here!

  127. Hellow! All actor, actress, and the right staffs.
    I’m Hiromaru712,Japanese,MGS fan. I wrote this message from Hiroshima,Japan.
First,I want to say “Thank you so much!!”. The movie is exceedingly good!

    After MGS4,Snake retired his war.
It’s good for him, but I feel I have a hole with my breast.
But! Sneke is here! I met Snake’s tales again in youre films!
I think it’s a works, give Snake new life.I say once more,”Thank you so much!!”

Hiroshima have been related to past war closely.
I feel sympathy …MGS’s theme, system:we can clear the game with no kill,
    and Sorrow of War.
I discovered MGS SOUL in “Metal Gear Solid : Philanthropy” certainly.

I’sorry,I can’t help activities directly.but keep cheering from Japan ardently.
    I’sorry,my bad English,and long writing.

Lastly, I play to youre health, and youre success in activities.

Nothing short from perfect.. 140. I can’t wait to see the part 2. Just loved the movie, and I’m not a big MGS player. Excepcional work in a no-budget movie. Congrats from Brazil.

  141. I don’t usually like to curse when review but I think it’s necessary for this situation:

OH.MY.FUCKING.GOD! I can’t stress enough how bloody fucking amazing this movie was. Everything was done so amazingly well, that I thought I WAS watching a real hollywood-produced film. All the characters were amazingly portrayed.

And Snake…Oh my god. I couldn’t think of anyone else to play his character other than who you chose. And the voice…WOW. A great choice. Though a bit deep, that was all that I saw, because I’m so used to David Hayter’s voice. BUT FUCKING AMAZING! I…Just…WOW! I’m having trouble finding the words to describe everything. Lol.

The visual effects were phenomenal, it looked like something from a big budget movie! I’m still in awe when I think about it. The choice in locations was brilliantly selected…Everything to mixing and effects are so astounding! I can honestly say:

HURRY THE FUCK UP AND MAKE THE SECOND PART! In the most sincerest way, as I am so UNBELIEVABLY eager to see what happens next.

Once again, amazing. AMAZING job you guys, I loved every minute of it. :D

  142. This film, was actually a brilliant movie format of mgs, it really did have an mgs feel to it for me and when it was over I was like, fuck! no! I’m going to watch it again and can’t wait for part 2, it really was the shit guys, you definitley all have a future.

  143. I love MGS. I was a little worried when I heard there was an MGS movie, and to make me even more worried, a fan made movie. I didn’t think it could translate well to screen, especially without Hideo’s help. But I have to say, not only did you make an amazing movie. This was the best fan made movie ever made in my opinion. You done a fantastic job keeping the quality and integrity of the games. Keep up the good work, looking forward to part 2 :)

  144. You guy’s have got to make part 2 and 3, I beg you!!!!! This movie is awesome, even though it should be rubbish being a no budget, film of a computer game, freebie movie by a group of new comers to the film making business! Well done Hive Division!

Everyone went all out to making this an awesome video. What’s next? I know this was not the end. I can see this being a big seller on the big screen. If you can find a way to make it end good but leave it open for the next one then I can see this being a blockbuster. What ever happens I just wan’t everyone to know that they did good and to keep up the good work.

I just discovered this fanmovie and wanted to tell you this:

    The Movie is absolutely awesome!
I didn’t thought, that it would be that good when I downloaded it. You really have to make the other parts, because I want to know how it will go on. ;-)
I’m very curious where Elizabeth got this powers from and what this… thing is that seems to follow the team.
You managed to bring the typical atmosphere of an MGS to video.

Great work and please go on.

    Guestbook Entry by Marcin — January 28, 2010 @ 13:19:43

  157. Absolutely outstanding movie.

Interestingly enough, most of the dialogue and humour was so similar to the games’ that I was in awe of the writing, which is something that struck out to me right off the bat. On top of that, the scenery was breathtaking, with a good amount of CGI that didn’t detract from the live action shots (in fact they complimented it).

I had this sitting on my computer for a couple months now, debating whether I should watch it. I’m wary of many fan adaptation, but seriously, this made me regret not watching it sooner. I would actually even pay to see this in theaters, and I hope a DVD comes out at some point so I can support the team.

Thanks again for all the hard work!

[Absolutely hilarious end after the credits. Great touch]

Trully a masterpiece and fan made!I must agree that it doesnt look like an amateur movie and u have studied they ways of MGS in a long term!I agree that snake’s and otacon’s voices resemble the character voices quite well :) Snake is my favorite however with great resemblence with david hayter’s voice!I am impressed and Best regards and wishes from greece!

  160. Great movie! I’ve expected a typical fan-made, amateur thing, but it surpassed my expectations by far. It’s not what I would call an amateur movie. I cannot imagine how much work You guys put in this, but it was well worth it, and the effect is simply stunning. I just can’t wait to see another parts of it. I’ve seen the movie 10 times already, and I still don’t have enough :) It’s great that You decided to tell a completely new story. Music: simly epic. Not many people notice that music was one of the main factors due to which the games were such a big hits. Dialogues are good too, actors play is great. Giacomo as Snake is overacting a little (or should I say: Phillip, cause it’s his voice acting), which is not 100% like Snake behaves, but that’s ok, I like Your version of this character. Not to mension You did a great job by putting voices similar to those from the games (in Snake’s and Otacon’s case ofcourse). I would gladly see this movie in cinemas or at least buy it on DVD. Oh, and can’t wait to find out what’s the true story behind Laeken and her strange powers :) So, once again, great job, thnx for making this movie, it was a real pleasure watching it, and I hope the works on following parts will start soon :) Best wishes to all of You :)

  166. As a movie, this was fantastic. As a non-profit, zero-starting-budget, fan-made movie, it was phenomenal. I’ve kept an eye on its development since the first trailer was posted on Youtube, though it’s only tonight that I’ve gotten around to watching the finished product, and I must say it was completely worth the wait. I really hope you guys will get to complete parts 2 and 3, I’m sure they’ll be even better than part 1 and honour the Metal Gear franchise even further. Well done.

  173. I received an email from gamespot today informing me that the official movie adaption planned by Sony/ Konami had ground to a halt and the future is looking questionable.
There was a link to the Daily Motion stream of philanthropy,
A film that I vaguely remember seeing an impressive trailer of,
But one that I had somehow all but forgotten about.

Well I’ve just finished watching the full feature and as a past player and fan of all but the latest game I have to say I was really amazed.
I would like to offer yet another pat on the back to the whole team at Hive Division,
this is a great achievement and it does a superb job of staying faithful to the origins of MGS.
There’s little to find fault with and the end result is something to be held in high regard as I you seem to have achieved a result that many big filmmakers could not.
I’ll make sure to bookmark this page and watch out for any news in the future,
by what I’ve seen today I should say that the sequals are going to be well worth the wait.
Good luck and here’s my support!

  175. Hey, I am a MASSIVE fan of Metal Gear Solid, i own all of the Games and have played through them a countless amount of times! I know everything about Metal Gear and that film i must say was truly fantastic ;) I will be truthful; i didn’t expect what i saw, but im glad i watched it now. I was VERY impressed with ‘Solid Snake’, the voice actor was almost EXACTLY like David Hayter, and Otacon (On the TV Broadcast) sounded a little like Christopher Randolph which gave the whole thing a very ‘real’ sense.

Amazing piece of work guys ;) Look forward to future production, and i advise you consider a ‘Donations’ scheme as i would most certainly donate in order to help, as im sure many other Metal Gear fans would ;)

The director is Kurt Wimmer (who both directed and acted in movies ‘Ultraviolet’ and ‘Equilibrium’). ^_____^

ANd the special effects are very impressive too. I can’t wait for part two. But I am curious, where’s the money in doing all this? It can’t all be for the love of MGS. You had the hardest mission many professionals fail at: Bringing a game to the screen. You were able to catch the “spirit” of the MGS games, remix it with your great ideas and finally produce a masterpiece without having Roland Emmerich as a producer. Damn, Hollywood needs you!

You HAVE to do the sequel, I will die not knowing the end of the journey!

Great acting , wonderful voice actors (specially Philipp Sacramento , he looked like the same David Hayter) , impressive computer graphics and postproduction , fantastic music and sound effects… definitely , I think Hideo Kojima himself would be proud of your work.

  289. Brilliant movie. I were positively surprised of how good it actually was, since i were expecting something in line with other fan movies, with bad acting, bad graphics and a feel of low budget, but none of that is in your movie. Please continue your VERY good work, and bring us part 2 and 3.

Will There Be An End.

  306. I would just like to say that I’m amazed at the quality of this movie. It goes to show you how much you can actually accomplish if you are passionate about something. There are just so many productions coming from Hollywood these days that you can feel has no real dedication in them, they’re just going through the motions of doing a movie.
I really hope you find the investors so Hive Division can grow.

On a final note, the fire fights were some of the best I’ve seen, they were something you would expect from a big budget production.

  313. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of your film for a good while now and I can honestly say, I was not dissapointed in the slightest. You have done an absolutely superb job, it’s really inspiring to watch this film. Being a film student myself, it really uplifts me to see what can be achieved with the most minimal of budgets. It does make me wonder how certain disasters can make it to screen, when gems such as this deserve to get on the big screen. Soundtrack, plot, acting, locations, characters it’s all just falls into place perfectly, you guys and girls deserve the biggest round of applause ever. You have done Kojima, his team and all the Metal Gear Solid fans around the world justice. What you’ve given them is something Hollywood could never produced. A film made with sheer passion, the effort you’ve put in can clearly be seen. Were it on my local cinema I would gladly pay good money to go and see it. I would love to see you make the two following parts, you have created a gem. One which I, and no doubt thousands of others would love to see continued.

  332. First off I’d like to say congratulations on such a wonderful masterpiece. We’ve all seen mainstream hollywood productions of films based on video games…and they’re all quite gimmicky. I’m a huge fan of the MGS series. To say this film blew all other ‘hollywood production’ films out of the water in my opinion is an understatement. This film is what the video game industry, the film industry, and fans needed. I’m happy all of your crew stuck out the tough times and came together to make something fantastic. I’ll be spreading this film like wildfire, and I already can’t wait for a sequel! Thanks so much!!!

  341. Thank you.

Thank you very much for giving me one of the best hours I ever spent watching a movie.

It’s almost unbelievable how well done the movie is. They speak so much about El Mariachi or The Blair Witch Project as no-budget projects, but both movies are crap compared to the quality you people put in MGSP.

As a MGS fan, I couldn’t be better served: you even squeezed a very cool Metal Gear battle! I must confess that when I watched the first trailer, I thought that the fight sequences would look phony, but that couldn’t be wronger.

Loved the 3d effects, loved the music.

For myself, I wish you guys manage to complete the trilogy (please, do that). For yourselves, I truly with that Kojima watches this masterpiece.

  347. An autentic piece of art, I loved the movie, it was well made considering that it`s a low budget movie. There are only two things that should be improved for part 2:
1- Talamini should let his hair grow, to be even more suited for Snake
2- The final fight need to be longer, at least in my opinion, was great but a bit short.

Other than that, Hive Division did an excellent job, congratulations and thank you for this movie!

  350. Hey people,
I just had to say this, even though I usually don’t post comments: You guys did an amazing piece of movie there. I was always a fan of the game, and wasn’t quite sure how they would work it out, if they’d make a movie out of it. Now I see, that big Hollywood doesn’t need to anymore, because in my book Philantropy, and the sequels you will hopefully do (as many said before: YOU HAVE TO!!! please…) will be the Metal Gear movies.
Hollywood usually doesn’t live up to the expactations anyways (see Hitman).

  359. Amazing! I’ve been playing MGS since PS1, I fell in love with the series back then and have been eagerly awaiting each sequel to date! I only recently got a PS3 and MGS4 and just completed the game not to long ago. I came across this MGSP website about a year ago I believe, and I had been waiting all this time for the movie to be completed, I just finished watching it and I loved it! The humour really made me laugh “You look like you should be a video game character” and the way the mission flows is exactly what you would experience in a MGS game. I’m really curious to know what Kojima’s and Konami’s response will be, I’ve also heard rumours that a high end MGS movie is supposed to come out, if so, they should definitely bring you guys on board! Again I just want to say that it was absolutely amazing and I really enjoyed it! I really hope you guys decide to continue and complete Parts 2 and 3!

    Cheers!

  369. I’ve been waiting for this film to be released for a while, I’ve been following your progress on your website from near the beginning. I must say that I was not disappointed with the result! Part 1 was fantastic, and the cliffhanger ending has me begging for more! I can’t WAIT to see what happens next… hopefully you guys will get some good sponsorship. Thanks again!!!

  370. A hell of a work ! Great job on this movie, it was ewen better than i expected when i saw the first promo video of this project years ago. I really cant wait for the next two parts and i wish you that it will be a little less problematic work from now on for you (due to the project history you written for us). A fiction hero and Hideos proud will not end the time soon and all MGS fans really got an bombing suprise thanks to you! For an not profit and low budget film its really great. But a lots of questions remains and i hope i get an answer how did the Russians get to borrow them the “Bear” bomber and Sukhois at the start of the mowie ! :D

  372. Hello to all. I actually stumbled into this movie yesterday looking for information on the Hollywood version of Metal Gear Solid. Seeing all this from the awesome movie trailer to the beautifully made movie. I have to applaud Hive Division, this is truly the most well made low budget movie I’ve ever seen, truly a work of art, and dare i say actually makes me think that the Hollywood version wont be necessary. I’ve been a huge fan of the Metal Gear series for ten years now and just by watching this movie i know that you truly put effort in this project. I do hope you can get part two off the ground from what ive seen it’ll be just as great. if Hideo Kojima would see this im sure it put a smile on his face. Excellent work Hive Division.

P.S. You guys rock for making it downloadable for free but if you didnt, I’d have paid to see it, thank you

    Guestbook Entry by DMikeE — October 8, 2009 @ 17:12:45

  383. Gotta say I agree with Scott. We just watched your movie and while it’s not bad, It’s obvious that you guys never had to EARN special effects, you were handed them. Contrast that with James Cameron, or Peter Jackson, or any filmmaker who makes quality effects films. They had to spend years studying story, character, cinematography, and prove they could excel in those areas, before they had green screens and mattes and the like. I’m a student filmmaker and I would kill for your production values. It’s hard not to be jaded because I know so many filmmakers who are much better writers and storytellers, and they’ll never have access to your resources. REALIZE HOW LUCKY YOU ARE AND BRING YOUR A-GAME. You owe it to every amateur filmmaker who wishes they had your technology and audience.
    P.S.
Also, you guys use fade outs at some really weird places. Just a little thing that killed some momentum here and there.

P.P.S Finally, the secret ending cut is so witty, funny, and generally fantastic that I was surprised it was made by the same people that made the movie preceding it. But keep on keeping on. Still looking forward to Part 2.

    Guestbook Entry by Kris — October 8, 2009 @ 09:32:33

  384. Sadly, I think your film is a tragic example of the fact that even the highest of high production values, which you certainly have, cannot makeup for deficiencies in writing and acting.

I would strongly encourage you to attend some scriptwriting and acting seminars before tackling Part 2. Your production values certainly deserve better.

Your film does plenty right, and it certainly has some nice moments, but lacks the cohesive, unified feel that a project of this magnitude deserves. Sorry to be a Negative Nancy, but I’m a filmmaker/writer/actor myself, and hiding behind the mantra of “we’re nonprofessional!” doesn’t fly with me. After all, clear and concise criticism is what makes us better. Cheers.

  394. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! I have to admit I was sceptical but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and can not wait for the sequel. If the official Metal Gear movie is even half as good as Philanthropy I will be delighted. The script was flawless, Snake’s character was protrayed perfectly, just as he is in the games. The attention to detail was immense, down to the hand signals used by the soldiers. Well done.

  403. Dear filmmakers,

The music used in this fan made movie was wonderful. The scenes were fairly beautiful. The characters were slightly recognizable, with the exception of Snake being very well portrayed. The story and plot didn’t quite reach out to me (though it’s late at night so my patience is diminished). This has much potential in itself I think. I hope you all the best in your future endeavors and to always reach for the stars when making a film. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I suggest that for making a fan made movie, that EVERYONE be truly familiar and truly fans of what is to be brought to life.
